It is a flowering plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family of daisies. Calendula has long been used as a medicinal plant and its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful when applied externally to the skin (more on that in a minute).
Nechtík pronounced kuh-len-juh-luh is named after the Latin word kalendae, which means new moon or the first day of the month. This is because the vibrant yellow and orange perennial is believed to bloom exclusively on the first of the month.
