Traditionally, cordyceps has also been used to boost immunity in recurrent infections or chronic inflammation (it has similar effects to corticosteroids, but without their negative side effects). For viral and bacterial infections - it is called a "natural antibiotic". It contains polysaccharides that induce an immune response in viral or bacterial infections, e.g. Streptococcus pneumoniae, Candida alabicans.
