Cosmetics - why does the skin need vitamin C? When it is applied to the facial skin, the important thing is that it acts as an antioxidant and thus helps the skin to protect it from the harmful effects of free radicals. Vitamin C further increases the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This increases skin firmness and elasticity, reduces fine and deeper wrinkles, and firms contours. Through its action, vitamin C removes dead cells on the surface of the skin.
